I read a library copy, but I’ll definitely be buying this book By far, my favourite Vonnegut book though, to be fair, I’ve only read two others: Based on the novel by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. And while it wasn’t anything mind-blowing or completely crazy or shocking or anything, what’s in that potato barn is vintage Vonnegut. Rabo himself is missing an eye. They have a similar sense of humor.

Slaughterhouse-Five remains one of my favourite novels and was one of the first that made me think science fiction could be much more than explosions and cool scenes. We all need from time to time to be woken from the dead dreary depression of life. The mystery of the potato barn has enticed collectors to make outrageous offers and to raise suspicions of stolen masterpieces.

Kurt Vonnegut’s Version of the Fairytale Bluebeard: Writing About Writing for People Who Don’t Read

When you grow up and leave the history classroom for the less comfortable world outside, you realize that nothing is really so simple as the textbook makes it appear. Occasionally, he would kind of wake up and spout off what might have been happening in his dream, and then fall back to sleep.


Vonnegut’s alter ego, Rabo Karabekian, is already a fugitive from genocide. This vluebeard page book is what most people mean when they describe a work as “Vonnegutian” in scope.

The book builds to a climax that is the most uplifting and life vonneguh that I have come across, so far, in the Vonnegut oeuvre and I was stunned and pleased by it.
