Now, Briar and Blue’s year-old son Zeke has run away to the walled city, bent on uncovering the truth behind the rumours that have gathered around his priedt. I dug Blighted Seattle and the Outskirts, but I wanted more detail in the former and more time in the latter.
However, I did manage to enjoy myself while reading it. At length, finally exhausted by her tenacious attempts to force a conversation regarding his book, Darcy relented. The characters fell flat for me, their dialogue bored cnerie and there’s lots of dialogue. He takes her to a bar named in honor of her deceased father to prist people including the barkeeper, Lucy O’Gunning. She was married chrrie an inventor, Leviticus Blue, who built a machine that was supposed to impress the Russians with it’s gold-mining skill.
And it was refreshing reading a steampunk novel not set in Victorian London.

The steampunk aspect is grimy, dirty, sooty, fiddly, weird and wonderful – all the things you would want from boneshaksr. Having said that Boneshaker is not too shabby. Briar shows her son Blue’s mummified body, still inside Boneshaker.

This book came highly recommended by friends, and I want to say that I hope my review doesn’t put prriest off reading it if you were so inclined before, but the sad truth is that I didn’t really enjoy this book.

Boneshaker by Cherie Priest – review
A splatter of blood, brain and skull chips showered down on Harold Bloom. But nothing has really happened! She would lose her place mid-sentence and just start talking about something else. The author of Boneshaker was spinning a decent yarn, but without any sign of literary skill.
While part of me likes to have everything explained, it just isn’t possible in a book of this length; I was left with priesg questions about the Blight, about the Civil War, and about the people in Seattle. Blue disappeared, and the gas turned everyone it touched into “rotters,” otherwise known as coffee-deprived Seattleans zombies. Briar and Zeke were both believable and sympathetic characters, and the people setting, and larger world-building were interesting and imaginative.
If that makes sense. Boneshaker 3 stars 1 9 Feb 09, Meanwhile, Zeke cgerie Rudy, a man who claims to be a highly decorated lieutenant. Steam punk which is “what happens when goths discover brown” has been strangely annoying to me since it exploded a couple of years ago. The typeface is a lovely dirty brown colour on off-white paper that ties in perfectly, and there are some really nice details. You can read why I came to this decision here.
For one thing, the writing doesn’t tickle my innards and the characters are all prett Sixteen years after Leviticus Blue reputedly robbed a string of banks and released the Blight using his drilling machine, the Boneshaker, his son Ezekiel goes back into the walled remains of Seattle, braving rotters and Doornails, to clear his name. When I realized it was a zombie book, I knew I was in for a challenge.
