By Palovana, October 1, in Gender Discussion. I was poking around online and I found this: I’ve always thought of myself as androgynous but according to this I’m very masculine.
My BEM score was But it was fun anyway, and fascinating! I think I have done that test before, looks familiar. I ended up getting 33, which is not too surprising, tests like this one tend to say that I am masculine. I’m a man which identifies as Androgyne although I express my body with clothes as unisex or masculine. The surprising outcome of this test was or Very feminine.
Yeah no this is total BS. Not a one of those traits is exclusive to “masculine” or “feminine” people. But I don’t really like this test, I’m very shy and not really a leader and all that stuff, and I like to be sweet to other people, I don’t see how that would make me feminine? Which matches my self-image. But it felt weird to see what traits count as masculine and feminine – this is more of an androgyny-as-read-by-social-stereotype test maybe?
Apparently “one of Sandra Bem’s main arguments was that traditional gender roles are restrictive for both men and women, and can have negative consequences for individuals as well as society as a whole. Sorting people into “masculine”, “feminine”, “androgynous”, and “undifferentiated” and then trying to claim that the androgynous ones were better-adjusted seems kind of counter-productive considering it’s built on the traditional gender roles it’s trying to subvert.
I got “very feminine” according to this lol But as others have said I don’t see these traits as specifically “masculine” or “feminine. Still, it was interesting to take! I don’t know how andtogyny can really determine gender if you can change most of those traits. Like you could become less aggressive or more friendly as time changes since that’s completely psychological.
We did this in a psychology lesson once I had the lowest masculinity score 27 and the highest femininity score in the class I have taken the test but don’t know much about all the lables for this or anything else. Just wandering thru the learning this and that. What does that mean? I thought it was about dressing different from prescribed I am a woman, dress a little excentric but like a woman.
Think of myself as a woman so Androgynous is what again? Okay you people are too slow for me, I found an urban dictionary. Wow so I have a new identity. I dont understand why a test for femininity or masculinity can just have the question: Why isnt that just the only question then?!?!?!? This is kinda dumb. I mean I suppose it can be a little bit of fun, tesf it can make you think about how you personally perceive these ancrogyny.
I literally said ‘nope’ before closing it. Okay so maybe it’s more than kinda dumb. I don’t see why people still associate certain traits with certain genders. I sometimes forget sexism is a thing still today, because I literally don’t care about peoples gender. I know that’s probably a really bad thing to admit to forgetting sexism still exists but it really does take me by surprise when someone makes a sexist comment.
This test means nothing to me. I’ve been toying with the idea of androgyny but I don’t really know much about it yet for me to have come to a conclusion about it. How can traits be inherently feminine or masculine??? Was not expecting it to be THAT high. Though I’m kinda happy about it, I’m also distressed about it. I want to be masculine and don’t want to be masculine.
Not that I take this test’s score seriously, I don’t. It’s just that I’ve already been thinking about this a ajdrogyny the past couple days.
I desire masculinity, and yet it causes me a lot of dysphoria, not to mention issues in my relationship with a heterosexual male. But in general I don’t care for how this test was set up. For me to look at myself and judge how shy I am, or how leading I am, or how gentle I am in a number is inaccurate. My mind can warp my choice based on how it would like to think of myself.
I feel that tests with scenarios asking what you would do or prefer are more accurate. Oh god mine gives a score of 37 – Masculine For someone only realising possibility of androgyny at age I took one that scores itself. Out ofmasculine 70, feminine 50, androgynous 50, although I would love to know the hem of scores.
I do stand up for opinions, but not myself. I don’t think it differentiates between that. I don’t mind being female, and I don’t mind that I’m anrogyny always ‘traditional;’.
But to the OP, yes, it is just odd read: I’ve never thought that any action, trait, or behaviour, ect, should be identified as masculine or feminine.
According to society’s rigid gender roles, I should be first a man, then an androgyne, then a woman. I scoredwhich is nearly feminine but not quite. I think it’s nearly androgynous because it’s closer to -9, but this test has a lot of flaws to begin with.
I guess loving children will somehow lower one’s masculinity and having a “strong” personality will somehow lower one’s femininity in the test creator’s eyes. I don’t understand androgynt having a strong personality is a masculine trait though.
Is that inferring having a “weak” personality means it’s a feminine trait? It sounds like stereotypical gender roles teet shoved in the numbers listed. In other words, very ‘feminine’.
I know it’s a silly test but at the same time I do know VERY much that people do get confused by my personality, coupled with my ‘male’ pronouns and ‘male’ name although they aren’t male to me.
I lack the stereotypical ‘masculine’ personality in nearly every sense. I identify as agender but since testosterone is my preferred hormone I find appearing ‘male’ to the outside world to be androgynh for myself.
I was brought up female and so I know my mannerisms and way of speaking are more typically ‘feminine’, and I know I learnt to see the world in a different way to most men. I have no intention of changing these things. I feel like even though I’m not an activist, just by living I will help break down some of these stereotypes, in my lifetime. I hope so, anyway.
